Cut cut cut cut!!! Pt. 1

Who loves cutting out pattern pieces? Oh my it's such a tideous job... But it's got to be done right?... I'm in the process of cutting out mccalls 6896  (I'm cutting out a size 12) to help me pick my size ,I looked at the finished garment measurements. I then  measured around my bust and my waist to make sure I was getting the correct size...This will be my second use of a commercial pattern. My first pattern was a very simple mccalls pattern which I  will be posting shortly. This one has way more pieces and I have to make sure to get all the markings transferred - super nervous and excited wish me luck! So stay tuned for the final product..have a wonderful day....

Diy gathered maxi, with pockets and zipper!

Good day lovelies! I'm sharing with you my first maxi skirt that I made for myself - sadly I have not worn it yet. I made this skirt 2yrs ago. I measured how long I wanted the skirt to be taking into consideration when I wear it with heels. I also measured my waist and doubled those measurements to get the width
of the skirt. To gather the skirt I used a basting stitch and pulled until I got the desired waist size. For my waist band I used Iron on interfacing for stability (I followed these steps: http://youtu.be/F6f2Yki0LDo). I also referred to other videos when I got lost or confused. I added pockets and a zipper as well.

My 1st sewing project

My first sewing project (about 5yrs ago) was a gathered skirt that I made for my daughter. I used a beautiful African print fabric known as ankara. I watched a number of YouTube  videos before I started, I have found that watching more than one video helps a lot. Everyone has a different way of doing a certain thing.  By watching more than one video you get to see different takes and opinions presented by them and you can pick which one works for you or you can combine a number of ideas and ways to get your final look. After watching a few videos I came out with this beautiful skirt :

Introduction!!

Hello beautiful people. My name is Martha and I have a strong passion for sewing and anything else to do with my hands. My parents bought me my first sewing machine a brother sq9050, I had never sewed anything ever nor used a machine.
I have been teaching my self and learning to sew using YouTube and blogs. I want to share my sewing and diy projects. I'm excited to learn more, and meeting more inspiring people. Lets enjoy life and believe in ourselves more.
